A good option for travellers operating in a limited time frame, this tour - one of our most popular - takes advantage of the so-called ' Friendship Highway' between the two capital cities. Highlights en route are Sakya, the largest monastery in Tibet, Shigatse, Tibet's second largest city, Tashilunpo Monastery, the seat of Panchen Lama, Shalu Monastery & Gyantse ( Tibet's ancient trading hub)

This tour is feasible in winter for travellers who want to travel via and back to Kathmandu, when air links to Lhasa are closed during the winter session.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 01:KATHMANDU – KODARI – NYALAM (3750 M), 164 KMS
Drive, Kathmandu to Kodari - Cross the boarder then continue switchback drive to Nyalam (3750 m.)

Day 02: LHATZE (3950 M)
Drive to Lhatze across Tsou La pass (4500 M) & Gyatso La pass (5220 M).

Day 03: SHIGATSE (3860 M)
Drive , Lhatse to Shigatse via Sakya Monastery.

Day 04: GYANTSE (3990 M), 350 KMS
Drive via Shalu Monastery , to Gyantse

Day 05: LHASA (3650 M), 90 KMS
Drive , Gyantse to Lhasa. Check into Hotel.

Day 06: LHASA
Guided sightseeing tour of Potala, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama; Drepung, the biggest monastic university of Tibet & Nechung Monastery, temple of the State oracle of Tibet.

Day 07: LHASA
Guided sightseeing tour of Jokhang, the central cathedral of Tibet, Barkhor, the bustling Lhasa market encircling the Jokhang Temple, Tibetan Medical Center & Norbulinka Palace.

Day 08: LHASA-GYANGTSE (3990 M), 350 KMS
Drive via Yamdrok, the Turquoise Lake to Gyangtse across Kampa La <La in Tibetan means pass> (5050 m) & Karo La (5045 m) . Visit Kubum stupa & Palkhor Chode Monastery.

Day 09: GYANGTSE-SHALU-SHIGATSE (3860 M), 90 KMS
Drive to Shigatse. En route visit Shalu Monastery. Visit Tashilunpo Monastery, the seat of Panchen Lama who is the 2nd in the Buddhist religious hierarchy & Shigatse Market.

Day 10: SHIGATSE-SAKYA- XEGAR /DINGRI (4350 M),
Drive to Xegar across Tsou La pass (4500 M) & Gyatso La pass (5220 M). En route visit Sakya Monastery.

Day 11: XEGAR/DINGRI -ZHANGMU (2300 M)
Drive to Zhangmu. En route visit Milarepa Cave.

Day 12: KATHMANDU
Walk across Friendship Bridge & transfer to Kathmandu.
