Dolpo Classic - 20 days
Mt. Everest

It is one of the Himalayas most unique and isolated cultural regions. Dolpo is the land of mystery and legends: untouched mountain vistas, Tibetan culture, snow leopards and deep seated ancient Buddhist wisdom.

Long out of bounds to foreign trekkers, Dolpo lure adventurers north-west with promises of untouched natural splendor, mystical cultures and rare wildlife. Dolpo, situated in Nepals' far west, was only recently opened to trekkers.

This is where you find the stunning Phoksumdo Lake , celebrated as the jewel of Dolpo. The people here trace their origins to Tibet , and their culture is a window to the traditions as practiced in the roof of the world centuries ago. The elusive snow leopard is a famous denizen of Dolpo and the rare cat has acquired the status of a legend. Thus it is not only the scenery that attracts trekkers to Dolpo, it is the chance to see a corner of Nepal that very few visitors will ever experience.

The trek begins at Juphal and follows the trail to Dunai, the first camp. We proceed to Tarakot, then way up to Shering Gompa (4400 m) which is the highest point of this trek. Passing through the Saldang and Shey Gompa villages, we descend to the beautiful Phoksumdo Lake, which is a part of the Shey Phoksumdo National Park. This protected region of more than 3000 sq. km, is among the most spectacular areas in Nepal. The Dolpo is a cultural extravaganza and the few visitors who venture to this region are rewarded with untouched Himalayan culture in a pristine setting.

The trek concludes with our descent to Chepka village and then to Juphal, from where we fly back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj.
