| Manaslu Circuit - 23 days |
Isolated, Remote, Stunningly beautiful! Off the beaten track!
This isolated trek begins in the historic centre of Gorkha, following a forested route dotted with prayer flags through secluded monasteries, villages, and over the Himalayas most impressive pass -the Larkya La - and finally down through the Annapurna.
This trek was officially opened to tourists in 1991, but mountaineering expeditions have long had access to the area. This area is spectacular, with some of the most dramatic high passes in the Himalaya. The Manaslu area has strong Tibetan influence and the local dress and customs remain little changed. Manaslu (8156m) was attempted by Japanese Expeditions from 1952 until 1956, when the first ascent was made. Long known as Japanese Mountain, much of the information about the area was, until recently, available only in Japanese.
The journey around these legendary mountains is enjoyable, but relatively tough. Only a lucky few are allowed to do this isolated route each year. Beginning from Gorkha Buri Gandaki river valley, we will pass through numerous Gurung villages as we travel north towards the Tibetan boarder. Villages give way to spectacular mountain scenery as we approach Larkya La- our highest pass. We then descend to the Marsyangdi River, ending with a trek down to Besi Sahar. From here we will drive back to Kathmandu. |
