Travel from the tea plantations of Darjeeling to the neighbouring state of Sikkim , the last Himalayan Shangri-La, with spectacular mountain terrain, hundreds of varieties of orchids and ancient Buddhist monasteries.

Then continue to the remote mountain kingdom of Bhutan. Closed for many years, Bhutan has now opened its doors to just a few thousand tourists a year, in an attempt to maintain its traditional heritage. We travel through spectacular Himalayan scenery and have the opportunity to visit traditional Buddhist monasteries. A unique and exciting trip for those keen to see something.

Day 1: KOLKATA ( CALCUTTA )
Arrive and transfer to hotel.

Day 2: TRAIN
Morning city tour of Calcutta . Evening board the sleeper train to Darjeeling.

Day 3: DARJEELING
Arrive New Jalpaiguri and transfer by road through wonderful mountain scenery to Darjeeling. Afternoon at leisure to explore the Mall, Darjeeling 's commercial street, lined with souvenir shops. (B)

Day 4: TIGER HILL & GHOOM MONASTERY
Excursion to Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise over Mount Everest followed by a visit to Ghoom Monastery. Free afternoon in Darjeeling. (B)

Day 5: GANGTOK
Morning drive to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim , situated by the foothills of the mighty Kanchenjunga . Afternoon visit to Rumtek Monastery and Gangtok bazaar. (B)

Day 6: GANGTOK
40km north of Gangtok is the impressive Phodang Monastery, which we visit. Walk to the nearby Labrang Gompa. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and views of Kanchenjunga. (B)

Day 7: KALIMPONG
Drive to Kalimpong, a centre for mountain viewing, bird watching, hill walking, visiting world famous flower nurseries, and taking scenic drives. (B)

Day 8: PHUNTSOLING
Drive to the border with Bhutan . Stay overnight in the border town of Phuntsholing. (B, D)

Day 9: THIMPU
A marvellous drive as the road twists its way through lush forests and scattered villages to end the day in Thimpu, capital of the Kingdom of Bhutan. (B, L, D)

Day 10: WANGDI
Morning sightseeing of Thimpu. Afternoon spectacular drive via the Dochula Pass to the old capital of Punakha. We end the day in Wangdi where we staying a lovely resort situated on the edge of a river in the middle of a beautiful valley. (B, L, D)

Day 11: PARO
Drive to Paro via the impressive Punakha Dzong. (B, L, D)

Day 12: PARO
Visit the ruined fortress of Drugyel and the nearby Rinpung Dzong which serves as the administrative centre and school for monks. In the afternoon there is an option to do a 2-3 hour hike to the viewpoint of Taktsang Monastery. (B, L, D)

Day 13: KOLKATA
Transfer to Paro airport for the flight back to Kolkata. On arrival, transfer to hotel. (B)

Day 14: KOLKATA -Tour ends. (B)
