Pushkar Fair - 15 days
Mahals of Rajasthan

This tour combines the legendary colour, sounds and smells of the camel fair with beautiful desert scenery and a heady religious atmosphere.

Hindus visit Pushkar all year to take a dip in the purifying waters of the lake, but the Kartika full moon night in November is believed to be the most auspicious day to do so. For eight days leading up to and including the full moon, Pushkar hosts thousands of celebrating devotees following prescribed rituals at the lakeside and in the Brahma Temple.

To add to the flurry of colour and festivity, a large camel fair is held in the sandy flats west of the town for the start of the fair. In the days leading up to the full moon there is brisk trading and parading of camels, horses and cattle. Other highlights include cattle races, plays, a fun fair and a circus with performers such as tightrope walkers. Our departures spend time in Pushkar at the start of the fair, when there is a focus on the camel trading and there will thousands of animals in the plains around the town.
