Dzongs of Bhutan

Nothing you do for children is ever wasted. They seem not to notice us, hovering, averting our eyes, and they seldom offer thanks, but what we do for them is never wasted.

Garrison Keillor

We belive that tourism can play an important role in the eradication of poverty and illiteracy. Most of the developing world including Nepal, are as we see it in a vicious catch 22 situation.

Poverty leads to lack of education as most citizens don't have the funds to educate their children and to gain a rightful employment, educations is an essential factor. This turns the wheels and the chidren of Nepal and other third world countries share a bleak future with little hope of escape from their dire situation.

By working with the local communities in the areas where we operate our tours, gives the community a chance for employment and the benefits are derived to the community as a whole.

Additionallyby supporting NGOs like "Children of Nepal" gives all the chance to help children of areas that are often neglected - urban migrant workers children. We tend to look at remote regions, while in our cities, day by day, are growing the children of the streets - with no help, hope or opportunities to help themselves rise out of their predictments or make a future.

Nepals chidren were specially hard hit, due to the decade long maoist insurgency, which saw people fleeing their homes and villages to the cities to escape the war that was raging in the hills and country sides.

"Children of Nepal (CON)"

An excerpt from the "CON" website and please do visit their site and find out how a little can make a 'HUGE DIFFERENCE' to a 'CHILD'. If you would like to visit them on a visit to Nepal, do let us know so that we can help you make the necessary arrangements.
Children of Nepal 's mission is to provide children in Nepal with a positive, nurturing, and stimulating environment in their early years. CON has integrated the principles of Waldorf (Rudolf Steiner) education with the diverse cultures and traditions of the Himalayas . In accordance with Waldorf practices, CON believes that intellect, emotion, and spirituality all contribute equally to a child’s healthy development. By combining these elements in a more integrative manner than conventional education techniques, children will become empowered and well-rounded individuals.

TWS ( Tashi Waldorf School ) is committed to providing welcome and appropriate learning opportunities to all children. Children with special educational needs receive support and assistance and develop their own unique areas of talent giving them a sound basis for later life. They receive support and love from the whole school community and all children in the school are engaged in caring for others and for nature through socially and environmentally friendly activities. ‘Children of Nepal ’ firmly believes that culturally-appropriate education holds the key to the eradication of poverty, conflict, and disease.

Exotic Vacations encourages clients who besides trekking and climbing the Himalayas , are also interested in contributing for the development of the Children of Nepal. If interested, we can organize a school visit for you, or if you want to contribute directly, please visit their website, here
Responsible travel
The beautiful environment of the Himalayas is also an extremely fragile one. At Exotic Vacations, we are extremely conscious about the environment and aim to minimize the detrimental impact on the environment as much as possible.

As deforestation is one of the greatest environmental threats, we do not have camp fires and use kerosene as cooking fuel. We also discourage trekkers from using wood-fuelled hot showers in lodges along the way. Many lodges, however, now provide solar hot showers, a far more eco-friendly alternative.

Garbage disposal is another major problem. Some of the busier trails are at times strewn with litter and garbage thrown by irresponsible trekking groups. Our staff members are well motivated towards eco-friendly practices. We carry the non-biodegradable garbage, apart from that which can be safely and easily burnt at the campsite. Our aim is to help protect and preserve this beautiful environment for future generations of trekkers to enjoy.
Care for porters and staff
We ensure that all porters and all other staff climbing in high altitude (above 14000 ft.) conditions are provided with adequate clothing and equipment. We ensure that all porters under our services are insured.

We run all our treks under the guidelines of the International Porter Protection group (IPPG).
